About These Guides

This site is a small collection of practical guides on herbal remedies, medicinal and food gardening, and keeping a few backyard chickens.

How the guides are written

• Amounts, not adjectives. Where a remedy says one teaspoon per cup and ten minutes, that is the amount meant. Vague advice is useless.
• The caveats are included. If an herb is unsafe for people with high blood pressure, or a method ruins the active compounds, that is stated on the page.
• Traditional use is labelled as traditional use. Herbal medicine has a long history and a thin evidence base in places. We say which is which rather than implying everything is proven.
• Nothing here is medical advice. See a doctor for anything persistent, and never delay treatment for a serious symptom.

How affiliate links are handled

Some guides mention a book or a seed kit that covers the same subject in more depth. Where we link to one, the link is an affiliate link and it is disclosed at the bottom of that page. It costs you nothing extra, and it does not change what the guide says.

Most of what is on this site can be done without buying anything: the herb lists, the tea preparations, the soil ratios and the chicken feeding amounts are all free to use as they are.
